Echinacea purpurea is a perennial plant, famous for its rustic, bright fuchsia-coloured flowers. You can choose whether to grow it to enjoy its microgreens, with their small, slightly bitter leaves, or to colour your garden and dishes with its beautiful flowers.

Description

Organic Echinacea purpurea

Echinacea purpurea, botanical name Rudbekia purpurea, is often defined as ‘rustic’ because it tends to grow well in a variety of soil and temperature conditions, resisting frost and tolerating drought. Its flower, which looks similar to a daisy, is widely used in herbal medicine for its active ingredients and its antioxidant and antiviral properties.

How can I grow it?

Producing organic Echinacea purpurea microgreens is quick and easy, even at home.
Start by planting the seeds in your preferred substrate and, watering them sparingly and often, leave them in the dark until they have fully germinated, usually in about 12/15 days.
After that, you can move them into the light and wait for the microgreens to develop fully: you will know they are ready when the leaves are green and open, but the stem will remain rather short.
A month after sowing, you can decide whether to harvest and enjoy your microgreens, or to plant them (in a pot or directly in the ground) for the flowers to bloom. Remember that the Echinacea plant grows well in all conditions but prefers full sun and well-drained soil.

How can I eat it?

Organic Echinacea microgreens have a fresh and delicate flavour with a slightly bitter aftertaste. For this reason, we recommend eating them raw as an addition to sandwiches or salads, or as an edible and colourful garnish for your favourite dishes.
